Dr. Jolesz to present at the National Cancer Institute

Ferenc Jolesz, MD, has been chosen to present at the National Center Institute’s Translational Science meeting scheduled for November in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Jolesz is B. Leonard Holman Professor Radiology at Harvard Medical School, and director, Division of MRI and the National Center for Image Guided Therapy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The work of Dr. Jolesz and his team in MRI-guided therapy has been identified as an exemplar of NCI-funded translational research.

The meeting itself is designed to accelerate early translational cancer research and to encourage collaboration and enhancement of knowledge across NCI-funded research programs.

It is the NCI’s first step toward implementing the Translational Research Working Group’s recommendations to develop a prioritization process and establish a new funding mechanism for early translational research.

Dr. Jolesz is co- leader of CIMIT’s Image Guided Therapy program. Image Guided Therapy (IGT) techniques lead to improved outcomes, shorter hospitalizations, and improved quality and speed of surgical procedures. By providing precise ways to “visualize” intra-procedural anatomical changes in real time, IGT clarifies surgeons’ understanding of patients’ anatomy and enables minimally invasive surgery to be performed inside solid organs.
