Alex Slocum, PhD

Alex Slocum did his undergraduate and graduate work a MIT, and then worked at the National Bureau of Standards, where he earned 12 superior service awards and a Department of Commerce Bronze Medal.  He is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT and a MacVicar Faculty Fellow for which he was named for his dedication to teaching.  He has seven dozen+ patents issued/pending.  He has been involved with nine products that have been awarded R&D 100 awards, and is the recipient of the Society of Manufacturing Engineer’s Frederick W. Taylor Research Medal, and the ASME Leonardo daVinci Award.  His current interests focus on the development of precision machines and instruments, micro & nanotechnology, and medical devices.  Alex is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.  Alex is also a marathoner and iron-distance triathlete who loves to snowboard and scuba dive.
